What is the MoE Innovation Cell?

The Ministry of Education's Innovation Cell (MIC) was set up by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, to build a culture of innovation, entrepreneurship and start-ups in higher education institutions. Its programmes include the Institution's Innovation Councils (IIC), the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) and YUKTI. Certificates connected with these programmes are issued through the programme concerned, for example to students, faculty and institutions that take part in IIC activities, Innovation Ambassador training or the hackathon.

Because each programme runs its own process, the issuing programme is always the authority on whether a certificate is genuine.

Step 1: Check the details printed on the certificate

Formats differ between programmes and years, so do not reject a certificate only because its layout differs from another one you have seen.

Step 2: Check the Certificate ID with the issuing programme

  1. If the certificate has a QR code or verification link, use it, but first make sure it opens an official government address (ending in .gov.in), not a look-alike site.
  2. Otherwise go to the official portal of the programme that issued it. The IIC portal is iic.mic.gov.in; the Smart India Hackathon site is sih.gov.in.
  3. Enter the Certificate ID exactly as printed, including letters, numbers, dashes and leading zeros.
  4. Some certificates can only be downloaded by the holder from their own programme login. Innovation Ambassador certificates, for instance, are downloaded from the participant's portal after the assessment. In that case, ask the holder to download a fresh copy while you watch, or to share it from their login.

Step 3: Understand the lookup result

Verifying certificates from other countries

Certificate verification procedures, issuing authorities, available databases and accepted documents vary by country and by institution. Some issuers offer online lookups; others confirm only by email, letter or an official request. Whatever the country, the safest check is a confirmation from the body that issued the certificate.

How Certify can help

Certify provides academic certificate, degree and qualification verification and employment credential verification for applicants, employers and institutions worldwide. Our team contacts the issuing institution or organisation, records the response and a quality reviewer checks every result. Each completed check gets a Verify ID that anyone can look up.

Certify does not issue MoE Innovation Cell certificates and cannot change their records. The outcome of a check depends on the issuing body replying.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I find the Certificate ID on an MoE Innovation Cell certificate?

If the certificate carries a certificate number, ID or reference code, it is usually printed near the bottom or beside the signatures, and some certificates also carry a QR code. Formats differ between programmes and years, so there is no single pattern to check against. If you cannot find any ID, the programme portal where the certificate was issued is the place to look.

Is there one official website that verifies every MoE Innovation Cell certificate?

Verification routes differ by programme. Use the verification link or QR code printed on the certificate if there is one, or the official portal of the programme that issued it, such as the IIC portal (iic.mic.gov.in) for Institution's Innovation Council activities or sih.gov.in for Smart India Hackathon. Only trust links on official government domains.

What does it mean if a lookup returns no result?

A "not found" result does not by itself mean a certificate is fake. Check that the ID was typed exactly as printed, including letters, numbers and dashes, and that you are using the portal of the programme that issued it. If it still cannot be found, ask the certificate holder for a fresh copy from their programme login or contact the issuing institution or programme team.

Can Certify verify an MoE Innovation Cell certificate for an employer?

Certify can run an Education Verification: our team contacts the issuing institution or programme and records the response in a report with its own Verify ID. The outcome depends on the issuer replying. Certify does not issue these certificates and cannot change their records; the issuing programme remains the authority on whether a certificate is valid.

Does the verification process work the same way in other countries?

No. Certificate verification procedures, issuing authorities, available databases and accepted documents vary by country and by institution. Always follow the route of the body that issued the certificate.
